Vietnamese communist chief To Lam holds “secret” meeting with Slovakia Prime Minister

January 12, 2025

Although the meeting between Prime Minister Robert Fico of Slovakia and a Vietnamese leader took place in Hanoi on the evening of January 2, 2025, there has been absolutely no news in Vietnam’s state-controlled media and Slovakia so far.

No one should have known about this meeting, but on Saturday, January 11, Prime Minister Robert Fico spoke up to correct and deny that he had stayed for 2 weeks at a luxury hotel in Hanoi as reported by the Slovak media.

Fico confirmed that he had just gone on vacation in Vietnam. He stayed there for 9 days and stayed at a resort. He explained that he stayed at a resort there, which has a direct flight from Bratislava and where many Slovak travel agencies organize tours.

Earlier, the Slovak press reported that PM Robert Fico was on vacation in Vietnam. He stayed at Vietnam’s luxury Capella Hanoi hotel, where one night costs more than 6,200 euros. The evidence is a video by Fico criticizing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which was filmed in the hotel’s most luxurious room.

Today, after returning home from his trip to Vietnam, the Slovak prime minister said that he was invited by foreign partners to an informal meeting in Hanoi. “The Vietnamese side provided transportation, security and a meeting place. The meeting place, along with meals, was a hotel that is attracting a lot of attention at the moment,” Fico explained.

To prove it, Fico also presented a certificate from the Capella Hotel Hanoi written in English, which stated that “Slovak Prime Minister Fico used the services and facilities of our hotel only for a working meeting that took place in the late afternoon of January 2, 2025 at the initiative of the Vietnamese side.”

It is known that the previous Fico government (currently Fico is the Prime Minister of Slovakia for the second time) was accused of supporting the Vietnamese communist regime in the kidnapping of Trinh Xuan Thanh and bringing him back to Vietnam in 2017.

Two people were directly involved in the kidnapping of Trinh Xuan Thanh. They were the Minister of the Interior of Slovakia, Robert Kalinak, who lent the Slovak government’s plane to then Minister of Public Security To Lam to transport Trinh Xuan Thanh out of the Schengen area to Moscow.

Former Chargé d’Affaires of Slovakia Le Hong Quang (far left) appeared on September 9, 2018 at Flamingo Dai Lai Resort, about 50 km from Hanoi

The second person is Le Hong Quang, who was then a special advisor to Prime Minister Fico. Quang is said to have been on the plane carrying Trinh Xuan Thanh. Le Hong Quang was the intermediary who arranged for To Lam to borrow the Slovakian government’s plane. After the kidnapping, Quang fled to Vietnam and is currently a Nigerian citizen. Thus, Le Hong Quang has 3 nationalities: Vietnam, Slovakia and Nigeria.

Regarding the meeting on January 2, 2025, the content of the meeting certainly had nothing to do with the above kidnapping incident (which happened more than seven years ago), however, questions have been raised about this meeting: who is the Vietnamese leader meeting with Slovakian Prime Minister Fico? What content and topic were discussed in this meeting? Why did Vietnam take the initiative to organize this meeting?
